Langston Masingale from Syracuse, NY, is a co-owner of studioDOG Pro, musician, songwriter, poet and humanist. Langston’s affinity for literature and writing began as a small child. His adolescent years saw continuous experimentation with the short story format, but also a continued love for poetry, particularly Harlem Renaissance poetry.. Eventually during his Bachelor’s at Le Moyne College, he took a Creative Writing course on a whim and first met with his mentor/friend the esteemed Michael Burkard, whose encouragement and guidance inspired Langston to write and write a lot. Bridging literature, art and music Langston formed the SAMMY award winning hip hop group The Goonies. He loves employing the use of rhythm and odd speech patterns into both his songs, short stories and prose alike.
A prolific wordsmith and formidable storyteller, “Mic tha Poet” may be the most recognizable name in the Syracuse spoken-word scene. For more than four years, Mic has been readily recognized as an integral member of the Underground Poetry Spot, based in Syracuse, NY. In addition to winning Slam titles and talent competitions in NYC, Buffalo, Syracuse, and Niagara Falls, Mic has spent countless hours working with students of all ages, bringing performance poetry to the forefront of the educational experience. Mic has had poems published in two youth anthologies and has been the guest speaker at countless conferences, concerts, exhibits, galas, gatherings, and occasions. Mic plans to release his first chapbook and accompanying audio CD in the summer of 2014.
