The Mobile Literacy Art Bus (MLAB) is a renovated 1984 American Eagle RV that was created in 2007 to function as a mobile classroom, to provide free art, photography, and writing curriculum to Syracuse City School District students. Late Night for MLAB is a fundraiser supporting MLAB in the second generation of its mission, as it broadens its scope to bring free arts education to high needs communities along the east coast. On its first tour, beginning summer 2015, the MLAB will drive from Maine to Miami as a mobile arts classroom and a working art studio, partnering with galleries, museums, and schools along the way to offer free and innovative arts based curriculum.
601 Tully: Center for Engaged Art and Research, an affiliate of Syracuse University, is a student-driven project that houses an international art gallery, an artist residency program, college classes, after-school and Saturday art classes for youth, a monthly poetry series, and community events and workshops. All 601 Tully art, education, and ecology programs are offered free to the public and grow out of a partnership between university, city and neighborhood entities. The building is a living sculpture where artists, community members and scholars engage in the coproduction of new culture.
